The appearance of dicranum endulatum on lawns (most often this is the name of moss that harms lawns) causes a lot of concern.
Determination of the causes of the appearance of moss
First, you always need to find the cause of the appearance, and only then decide how to eliminate it.
Moss appears when:
- increased acidity of the soil;
- too much soil moisture;
- lack of soil nutrition;
- strong shading on the site;
- very short mown grass.
On a note!
Moss can appear both with the combination of the above reasons, and in the presence of at least one of them.
High acidity of the soil
When determining the acidity of the soil, you can use a pH meter, in which the measurement scale is designed for a range of up to 8 units, which is enough for the soil. Or you can check the acidity level in a specialized laboratory.
Types of soil acidity:
- Soils with an acidity level of up to 4.5 are considered highly acidic;
- medium acid — up to 5.0;
- slightly acidic — up to 5.5;
- almost neutral — up to 6.0;
- neutral — over 6.1.
If the soil is acidic, the problem is solved by applying lime to the site (liming).
Excessive moisture.
Causes of an overabundance of moisture in the soil:
- the site is flooded. Especially if it happens regularly;
- the irrigation system is incorrectly configured or is malfunctioning;
- incorrect verticalization of the site.
On a note! Carefully monitor the irrigation system. It requires constant changes in basic settings — watering is reduced in the rain, etc.
Solving these problems is quite time-consuming. Installed drainage systems can help, or the entire site will have to be redone completely.
Insufficient nutrition of the soil
The growing moss draws much more nutrients from the soil than lawn grass, and eventually depresses the lawn. With properly selected mineral fertilizing, moss will not grow.
How to feed the lawn?
It is advisable to do this up to 4 times per season.
- Early spring. Nitrogen fertilizers are used.
- End of June. Nitrogen and calcium are used.
- End of July. Nitrogen is used.
- Mid-September. Phosphorus and calcium are used.
Apply fertilizers evenly and in equal parts throughout the lawn.
Excessively shaded area
Unfortunately, this problem can be solved either by demolishing buildings, or you need to remove plants from the site that create shade.
Short – mown grass
With a very short mowing of the grass, part of it dies off, and moss takes its place. To prevent this, you do not need to mow the grass at the root.
We have a solution for this problem
“Antimoh” is a special anti-moss agent designed for all types of lawns with use throughout the growing season (spring, summer, autumn). The nitrogen (N) content has a positive effect on the growth and appearance of grass shoots, at the same time it suppresses the growth and appearance of moss on grass lawns. The iron (Fe) content in the selected dosage effectively destroys the formed moss and prevents its subsequent appearance. Regular application will ensure a flawless grass cover without moss.
The Antimoh product is manufactured using the most modern technologies and is harmless to the environment. Uniform dosage throughout the growing season provides the lawn with an impeccable appearance, good condition, resistance to stress in summer and winter.
Composition: N (13,5 %), Fe (3,5 %)
Application procedure: before using the product, it is necessary to scarify (scratch) the lawn. To do this, it is better to use a rake with frequent teeth. After scarification, moss and dry grass should be removed from the lawn. Next, you need to aerate the site. Effective aeration is the saturation of the turf with oxygen and the improvement of the physical properties of the soil. Aeration will allow the Antimoch agent applied evenly to the entire damaged area, as well as water and air to better reach the root system and contributes to the most uniform distribution of nutrients. After application, it is necessary to water the lawn abundantly.
The remedy “Antimoh” should be applied in windless and dry weather.
The application should be carried out in different directions: first along, then across, then at an angle, etc.
The recommended consumption of this product is 4-5 kg per 100 m2.
